URGENT WARNING - FAULTY PASSPORTS!

Last week I supported with 3 parent requests and 4 draft checks.

It got me thinking... Imagine if Passports were carried out in such an amazingly poor fashion as EHCP's?

 

If Photos were sent in with kids wearing fake beards, but they were still used. If instead of British, the agents put American and instead of stamping they scribbled all over it... I mean that is the truth of what's going on with EHCPs.

 

There are young people who have been diagnosed with conditions which are left off. Those who have have huge amounts of evidence of SEN, who are refused assessment, almost to just delay the inevitable, and the MOST non specific statements that you can imagine could be made!

 

It would almost be laughable, if it wasn't for the fact that on the other end of this terrible system stands the lives and opportunities of hundreds of thousands of children with SEND.

 

Passports are the ticket to travel, but EHCPs are children and young peoples ticket to life and learning, to safety and friendship.

 

All we can do is arm ourselves with as much knowledge as possible, but families that keep me awake at night are those for whom additional needs are a factor for parents and child. How on earth are those parents expected to negotiate the system, when they have learning needs, lack of time and energy, mental or physical health conditions or work 3 jobs and still live in poverty?

 

0-25 teams around the UK should stand up and be ashamed of what they are doing/or not doing. Professionals creating information for the EHCPs should do better and need to make the reports as specific as possible. Instead of almost playing some strange game where they compete as to who can create the most vague comment... are there some kind of awards in this I don't know about? I have some contestants I would like to enter! 

 

Anyway. I stand with you and I applaud all the parents who sit tonight, having probably had a busy, day and no sleep, who also have to constantly feel let down and angry.
